"The acupuncture increases the ability of the thyroid to recover by itself", said my chinese doctor. The earlier it is, the easier it will be, but it
would be difficult if you've had hyperT for years.

The size of my thyroid reduced after acupuncure, but the symptoms were
still there. However, I noticed that my TSH went up to the normal level
after acupuncture. Before the acupuncture, I was on Carbimazole for about a
week, I felt there was no effect, the out of breath symptoms was prominent,
racing heart beat, tremors and weaknesses were all there.

Aside from the needles my doctor used a seven star needle which he uses
like a hammer at the nape were three needles were removed and around the
throat. At the throat, the inflammation had a split or a dent down at the
middle because of the hammering. But the rate of the reduction got faster
when needles were also placed in the ear, and I found this to be very
painful, but later on bearable. I can also see patients who had suffered
from a stroke and unable to speak and walk, were able too, after two
sessions, one particular individual danced after three sessions.

After 35 sessions of acupuncture, the tremors and heart rate were still
there, the weight improved with the increasing TSH level (I think weight
loss is linked with TSH level, my weight went down when TSH also went down).
Since my doctor went back to China, I have to go back to my medz. After a
whole month of Carbimazole and two glasses of Tahu (bean curd) a day, and
occassional crabs and shrimps, I have observed my heart rate to be in the
normal level, 74-86. I still have slight tremors though, but my fear has
dissipated with the decrease in the heart rate.

I cannot say that acupuncture cured me but I think it helped a lot in the
process, medicines alone will take a long while, but a combination of the
western and eastern medicine plus the diet would be a wholesome management
of the hyperT.

I was diagnosed with HyperT last May of 2000, had acupuncture June then
August, and on medz September. I'm maintaining 5 mg of Carbimazole three
times a day, sometimes only two if I forget. I know I'm still not well,
slight tremors can still be observed, but the anxiety, the weight down the
ribs and the fast beat seems to have disappeared. However, tension and
anxiety seems to bring back those feelings but only slightly.
