I developed a big rash on my back shortly after being diagnosed with Grave's. I tried A LOT of anti fungal treatments, neem, tea tree oil, ketoconazole, vinegar, bleach....the neem seemed to work the first few days and then stopped. Anyway, I then developed severe hives from the methimazole and ended up in the ER late at night. The dr prescribed atarax and prednisone. And lo and behold the rash went away! It eventually came back, so I went to another Dr who said it probably wasn't fungal (or ringworm) and prescribed triamcinolone. It went away after more than a week...I try to keep my back from getting dry with vaseline to prevent another flare up. I hate taking steroids...Anyway, I know for a fact that doctors will assume you have ringworm without necessarily confirming it either by a skin scraping or by looking at it with a Wood's lamp. Before you start treating "ringworm" make sure the diagnosis is right!
