Hi -

The old TSH "normal" range went up to about 5.5. The big endo club, the AACE has finally realized that anything over 2.0 is now considered possibly signifying HYPOthyroidism. Most people feel sluggish and hypO at anything above 2.0. Some even feel bad with a TSH over 1.0 (as in my case).

You need to find out which of the TWO thyroid hormones might be low, IF that is what is causing the high TSH. As Cas said, it's not THAT bad.... some TSH levels go up to over 100 and more.

There is great nutritional info here on this website that can help you jumpstart a sluggish thyroid, if that's what you have.

You you also have the option of adding a bit of synthroid (T4) and/or cytomel (T3), or a natural combo drug (Armour) if you can't jump start your thyroid with nutritional balancing, and eliminating toxins.

Get your Free T4 and Free T3 (not T3 Uptake which is obsolete and not the measure of T3 hormone), and you will see where your THYROID levels are. The TSH only measures your pituitary gland. High TSH (or low) can sometimes be caused by problems other than the thyroid.

If this doctor is just measuring your TSH and not your thyroid and other levels then he/she needs to get updated.

Best Wishes, Chris
