Jen, I feel for you! I was always very thin and in excellent shape then I started gaining steadily - especially when I was taking synthroid. I had my doctor switch my medication to Armour (which is the "natural" form of thyroid replacement and which has T3 as well as T4) and also I added Cytomel (which is T3 only). I have slowly lost weight with this combination. Most people need the addition of T3 in order to lose weight. You can research this by doing a search of T3 or by checking out Mary Shomon's website at About.com. You should know that many people gain weight simply because of the Synthroid. Another thing that really helped melose weight quickly was I did Loise Gittelman's Two Week Fat Flush. I lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks and have maintained it for 3 months now with little effort. You might want to check it out. It is a wonderful cleansing diet for your liver which will help with your health overall. The liver is where T4 is converted into T3 in the body so it's really important for people with thyroid problems that it can function at optimum levels. Good luck with your weightloss efforts no matter what you decide to do! Best, Lisa
